Trauma & Loss: Creating School Communities of Well-being
About the event:
We know that all schools have children in their classrooms that are dealing with the impact of trauma and loss in their lives. Some through their journeys of foster care and adoption; others through immigration as refugees, violence in the home, conflict in parental separation and divorce, serious illness, or a death in the family. By supporting these families schools can play a critical role in creating an environment that will help children heal.Ottawa Community Wellness Saturday brings together parents, teachers, other educators and community partners to create school communities that are positive, safe and welcoming for children who experience foster care, adoption and other situations that make them vulnerable.
Participants will enjoy a comprehensive workshop followed by an interactive resource village.
Cost: This event is FREE!
Participants will learn:
• Benefits of Trauma-sensitive Schools• Effects of Early-Life Adversity on Childhood brain development
